What is wrong with my wonky periods?!

Had DC1 in January, BF-ed for 6 months, periods restarted about a month later, in August. Since then they have been coming every 2 weeks :-(. Pre pregnancy I was on Cerazette & had no periods. Was regular once I came off & started TTC. Had bilateral dermoid cysts removed about 6 months before we conceived DS. My last smear (in April) was clear. I went to GP about 6 weeks ago who suggested doubling up on Cerazette to stop the bleeding, this made me VERY emotional so I just stopped altogether. Was referred to gynae who did a transvaginal ultrasound, looked at my cervix, and pronounced all was well. Since then I have been bleeding bright red blood, quite heavily, every 2/2.5 weeks. What on earth is going on? What do I do? I have convinced myself I have cancer :-(. I'm 38 BTW. Thanks for reading my tale of woe!
