Coughs - when should I see my gp?

As the thread title says really. I've had the cough for about a week and a half. It's keeping me awake for most of the night, making me vomit occasionally and I'm still coughing up quite a lot of green phlegm throughout the day (tmi I know).

I haven't taken any cough medicine because I'm pregnant and both the pharmacist and my midwife have advised not to. But have been doing all the usual things like honey and lemon tea, paracetamol for general aches, steam inhalations, etc. Dh had the same cough and it went within 2-3 days with cold meds Envy .

Seeing the doctor a lot for other, unrelated health issue atm and I don't want to be a time-waster if this is something I just have to wait to clear on its own.

I think the advice now is to stick it out for at least 3-4 weeks. There's not a lot of evidence that medication helps coughs unless you have a very bad chest infection- in which case you'd feel feverish and have a tight chest and maybe sore chest when coughing.
OTC cough medicines might be okay but depends what is in them and how pregnant you are. Sorry- not much help- it's horrible, I know.

Thanks, I will leave it then and hopefully it will clear up by Christmas.

Mw and pharmacist both said no otc cough mixture for chest coughs is ok during pregnancy. I'm 24 weeks.

you could probably take something like lemon and honey- isn't there one called Butter...something? I think it's the OTC ones that have sedative effects that are not safe- but there will be something that is just soothing.
