I have just been talking to my SIL and she said she had not been well. She said that she is getting the runs and when she gets it she is on the loo for hours. She said one night this week she sat on the loo for 21/2 hours and what was coming out was like "pints" rather than just a bit. Obviously she feels awful the next day and slept for 4 hours one morning. This has happened 3 times in the last week. I would normally say this is a bug but she has told me this a few times before so I know it happens every now and then. Her DH has told her to call the doctor, especially as it is so hot at the moment and he is worried about her dehydrating, but she doesnt want to because she is worried that something serious is wrong and has made up lots of excuses as to why she cant this week, ie. helping out at school. I have told her to write down everything she eats and if it happens again and then go to the doctors next week.....no school commitments then...so no excuses. She does loose wait when it happens, apparently 4lb in one night but I dont think she is loosing weight when it isnt, there is also no blood there. She said she is eating normally, although they do have their evening meal very late at night, 10.00 pm. What could it be thats causing it?

Your poor sil,she really needs to see her gp as this isn't normal ,i know she is worried but it is probably something treatable /managerable,burying her head in the sand wont help her.
Hope she gets sorted soon

Yes I know, its really worrying. What manageable conditions are there though. Other than IBS Im not sure. Could it be food intolerence. She is one of those people who puts off anything important, it happens all the time with her, ie. her dd was referred for sleep problems, but she never chased it up and it didnt happen. A few weeks ago her dd was also referred for behaviour problems at home. Dr said come back in two weeks...she cancelled it this week because she was helping out with swimming lessons at the school. I told her that she may as well phone because I will be on her case until she does.
