DS1 has kindly given DS2 a cold and as he is only 3wks old I'm not sure what to do for him. Any suggestions would be most welcome as have had the most awful afternoon with the pair of them and what with it being 34degrees here I feel like I'm having a meltdown!!
Thanks in advance

My HV told me to phone her for advice when DS got his first cold - I did and she came out to see him.

She advised against saline drops (apparently there is some research sugesting they're not great for the baby's nose, but it's not conclusive) but we did use baby olbas oil (from boots) near the cot and another thing that helps is steam - sit in the bathroom with him and run the shower hot.

Thanks. Will go to chemist in the morning and speak to pharmacist about saline drops. Will use some olbas oil tonight in the hope that we might get some sleep.

raise one end of the cot with books or something so he can breathe a little easier x

When DS is up in the night with a cold I find 20 minutes of the steam thing helps him clear up and get back to sleep. It's a looooong 20 minutes but you can see it as an investment!

and if DS's nose is blocked put a pillow UNDER the mattress so the mattress raised abit
