Achey Vagina driving me mad

AcheyFanny · 05/12/2013 19:22

As it states above.
Had a bout of thrush recently after not having it for more than 10 years. That has now cleared but I am left with intermittent aches and small pains in my vagina. No itching, burning, odour or unusual discharge. No change in my pee and it doesn't hurt to go. Not had sex for ages, I'm a bit scared that it will hurt.

I went to the Drs today and have been told to go to a gynaecologist. I don't live in UK, it is standard here for GPs to do this, not like the NHS where one would see the nurse for a smear or whatever.

Anyhow, I am going to see the gynae next week but in the meantime could anyone help with what this could be? I originally thought it was Vaginitis but now I'm not too sure and am a bit worried.

I have just saw your tread I have the same problem I had aching vagina on and off went to GP prescribe canesten cream finish the tube now is back driving me crazy . Did your GP gave you antibiotics and its gone or refer you to a gynaecologist .thank you

AcheyFanny · 06/12/2013 04:40

Lilli no the GP wouldn't give me anything, she passed me off to the gynae. As I said, this is what happens here, doctors are all private here and GPS tend to refer rather than assist. The state healthcare is just ok but not efficient.

Prior to this I just treated it myself and used a Canestan Combo (pessary & external cream)but it didn't shift it so I got one if those once tablets and some Travogen internal cream. That cleared it but I am now left with the ache.
I got another once tablet last night so will see what happens now.

Also, I meant to say that I don't have it at 6am when I wake up. It slowly comes back through the day. The once tablet is Flucanozole/Diflucan.

Could you have a prolapse? I do and aching and little pains are part of it especially if I have over done things. Get a mirror and take a look.

EmilyAlice · 06/12/2013 05:48

You don't say how old you are, but if you are post-menopause, you should investigate vaginal atrophy.

AcheyFanny · 06/12/2013 06:59

Yikes, I'm 44, not had children. Not started menopause yet and don't think I am even peri just yet.
Oh Lord.....get a mirror Loves? what am looking for?

Thank you Fanny I ll go to STI clinic to check it out . did you get the cream over the counter ?

AcheyFanny · 06/12/2013 11:48

Lilli, the Canestan Combi came from UK, a friend brought it over and she bought it in Boots. The Trovogen and once tablets were also over the counter from the pharmacy.

Still irritated I need to go to STI clinic its difficult to get a appointment when you work or buy the Canesten cream its very sore.

AcheyFanny · 09/12/2013 04:34

Lilli is the irritation on the outside?
Recommend another Canestan for that while you wait for an an appointment. It might not have cleared from the first tube, mine took 2 goes. Don't scratch, wash gently in plain water only, wear cotton knickers and no tight clothing. Live yogurt is good for helping to cool the itch but best just to go to the chemist asap.

I don't have any irritation, itch or burn on the outside, just a naggy, dull ache inside. Am dreading the gynae on Thursday, I have to go private as the state healthcare here is so slow. Last time it cost me €70 just for a smear and that was in 2008!

yes you said it , thanks god no scratching . I couldn't get an appointment at the STI clinic and I bought the Canesten cream its getting better . Many thanks

Orangeanddemons · 10/12/2013 12:36

I've had this. It's generally thought that the nerve endings get irritated by inflammation, and when the itching goes away, they need to calm down which can take ages.

varigatedivy · 10/12/2013 15:48

OP Have you heard of vulvodynia?

Have a google and there is a support site.

This site gives some info

BAD

AcheyFanny · 10/12/2013 18:49

Vari, thanks I hadn't thought of that. Will have a look at it.
Was supposed to go to gynae on Thursday but think I will have to cancel till January due to lack of funds.

Weekend and yesterday where fairly pain free, taking Ibuprofen and I kept busy on my feet and did not sit down without a kids blow up swim ring to sit on (like a donut shape). It is aggravated massively by sitting on it. Today I forgot to sit on my donut driving home and now I have pain. Also my period is due. Great.

When I read your post it made me think of something that maybe not lots of people speak of and for the life of me I can't remember the name of it!!!!
It's where your muscles are actually too tight inside...its an achy dull feeling. Sometimes you might feel light flutters.....
I think it's called pelvic floor dysfunction, or hypertonic muscles. Just something to throw into the mix...just in case.

AcheyFanny · 12/12/2013 05:00

Indigo thanks, I am at a loss really, it is ONLY aggravated by sitting on it and I take Ibuprofen 3 x a day just in case. No external symptoms, no change to toilet habits and no pain when I go either way. My period was due on Monday but has hardly started yet. Had to reschedule the gynae to 14th January.
Has to be connected to the bad bout of thrush I had recently. Have been very lucky all my life and had almost zero problems down there up till now.

OP posts:
varigatedivy · 12/12/2013 08:32

I think the problem is that you don't know exactly where it is coming from. It might not be your vagina- it might be your urethra which is right next to it. You can get pelvic floor dysfunction- where you PF muscles don't relax and get too tight but it's usually people who have long term gynae issues who get that, by clenching their PF.

I think you ought to see a gynae if it carries on and one who is an expert in vulval health.

I still think it's some sort of nerve damage/reaction you are having after the thrush ( if it was thrush) which makes it all sound like vulvodynia or one of the similar conditions.

AcheyFanny · 13/12/2013 04:25

Vari, I think it's a prolapse. Sorry for the TMI but last light I put a finger up there and felt something. Rounded and squidgy, about a fingers length up. Loves mentioned it way above but I thought it only happened after childbirth and I don't have kids!
After some googling I found that it can happen to women who have not given birth, pre menopause.
