I'm 5 weeks pregnant for info.

I have a ridiculously high resting heart rate. It's over 100 bpm most of the time.

My pulse is so strong you can see it in my tummy.

I sometimes get lightheaded and my hands have a very faint shake.

My blood pressure is slightly high and has always been like that.

I'm relatively fit (walk 2+ miles a day) but a wee bit overweight.

Dr Google is suggesting Hyperthyroidism or anemia?

I'm worried how either will affect my pregnancy Sad

Does anyone have any experience of similar or advice?

Tia.

No idea but just a thought that could be lack of iron? Happens in pregnancy.

BunnyLebowski · 28/11/2013 17:19

I think you might be right. I had no idea that anemia could cause these symptoms.

I've felt weird for a few months now so have made an appointment for Monday morning to get it checked out.

Presumably Ill need iron tablets.

The high heart rate is really freaking me out. I kept worrying that my heart would just stop or explode. Rational right?! Grin

Thanks Congrats to my favourite MN-er. How lucky mini-bump will be to have you as a mum :)

Not an expert, but it's very common to have an increased heart rate in early pregnancy. All of those rushing hormones will have a big effect.

It's good that you're seeing the doctor, but try to be reassured by your lack of other symptoms. Serious heart problems tend to come with serious symptoms - extreme breathlessness, fainting, struggling to walk upstairs and so on. The trembling hands & lightheadedness are probably due to your early pregnancy with a bit of anxiety thrown in.

I had an ECG when I was pregnant because my heart was doing strange things. All was good & no one was concerned. A normal resting rate is between 80-100. Just over 100 is not terrible.

You will be fine. Your heart is far too good at what it does to simply stop.

Hope you get lots of reassurance on Monday. And if they give you iron, prepare yourself for black poo Wink

Definatly sounds like low iron...I had EXACTLY the same symptoms and had no idea mine was so low. The GP rang after my blood tests to start me on tablets and needed them for three months. Normal range is min 11...mine was 4.2...

Good luck at the docs and hope you have a healthy pregnancy Grin
