Bowel problems - you've been warned!

I had problems with my bowels during both my pregnancies; I'd have a week of constipation and a week of, well, looser stools, alternately till the birth.

After DC2 was born, I suffered from constipation for 3 months, give or take, to a degree that caused bleeding when I was able to go.

He's nearly 2 now and my insides have never really settled. It seems to be a hormonal thing, that between ovulation and my period starting I'll be constipated for a few days, then the opposite for a few days, and it's been getting progressively worse

This time I'm having terrible cramping and bloating; this morning I actually couldn't get out of bed it was so bad. I've had this sort of pain before - as a kid I suffered from horrific wind pains a good few times and I've had it occasionally as an adult as well - but it's always gone away after a couple of hours, leaving me feeling bruised for a couple of days but able to stand up straight, at least! But this time it's dragged on for days and I don't know what to do about it.

I'm actually nervous about having to into work tomorrow; a lot of the time I can't stand up straight with the discomfort, I look like I'm 9 months pregnant, I'm so bloated, and I'm afraid that I'll move on into the 'loose stools' phase of the cycle and have problems. Last time that happened in work, I had a very near miss running to the loo, with absolutely no warning, and I'm dreading that happening again.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing?

I'd write a list of exactly what's going on and see your GP.

Definitely see your GP. It sounds fairly IBS like to me (I have similar problems) but I would want other stuff ruled out (Coeliac, Crohns etc)

Have you tried cutting out bread and other wheat based products?

I have, for weight loss reasons, and feel much better in other ways because of it. I an much less windy and don't get bloated.
