unexplained bruising in knee creases

QueenBoudicea · 23/11/2013 12:29

A few months ago I noticed a small bruise behind one knee but I've just noticed this morning that its now developed into a big dark line about an inch wide going across my whole knee crease and I've noticed a smaller bruise starting to appear on my other knee crease.

Any ideas what it could be - I don't really want to go to the docs but it seems a bit odd. I haven't bumped myself or fallen but bit worried that it seems to be growing!

I'm a healthy bmi and reasonably active and in good health.

I've taken a picture which I'll try abd upload to give an idea

Bumping - I also get a weird stinging sensation in the middle of the calf muscle of the more bruiaed knee every now and again.

Could it be a dvt? Or poor circulation

I'd ring NHS direct - unexplained bruising can be a sign of something serious. They will advise you whether to book a GP's appt

Look up Addison's disease

Not being flippant but are you wearing tight jeans? And have you been kneeling in them? When bending the stiff fabric can bunch behind the knee and cause constriction that can make a bruise and numbness.

Thanks for the replies - think I'll make an appt with the doctor just to get checked out. I'm not liking the sound of Addisons disease.

Not flippant at all - I only wear jeans about once a week so dont think it could be that.
