Swollen Ankles / Water Retention... HELP

MrsBigD · 12/07/2006 14:32

Any tips & tricks to combat water retention causing swollen ankles - manatee style!

Ok the heat doesn't help and I'm sitting on my bum doing an office job.

I do work out, drink lots of water, cut out salt from my diet. Haven't ventured into nettle tea or water retention drugs so would welcome any advice/recommendations to keep the swelling down as it is also painful.

Thanks

have you seen your dr. swollen ankles can be a sign of an undelying heart problem. (or are you preg) Additionally drinking lots of water may not help if your body is not able to get rid of it.
whilst sitting at your desk sit with your feet up. Consider Flight socks or stocking (very attractive) and point and flex your feet as many times as you can per day. the more you work your calf muscl they better it gets at pumping the fluid back to your heart.

The only thing I've found that helps - once they're already swollen - is to put on a pair of trainers and go for a walk. Not that that's easy with an office job, but perhaps you could work a 30m walk into your day? Even just wearing trainers rather than sandals seems to help a bit.

thanks chapsmum, might go and see gp. Wanted to make an appointment anyhow as I want some of my moles checked out...

Oh body is getting rid of water alright... probably should call myself MrsQueenToiletStops

I do jiggle my feet a lot under the desk and when it was really hot I actually grabbed a bucket of cold water and put it under my desk to my colleagues amusement.

As for heart problems... haven't had any so far. My ankle problem has gotten much worse since I've had ds nearly 2 years ago. Had cs and they put those 'lovely' stockings on me and wouldn't let me take them off until I left hospital even though I was walking about lots every day. When I took the off my ankles were the size of small melons! Thought those stockings are supposed to support drainage not cause blockage... maybe I'm just weird
