Hello.
I wasnt sure where to post this message!??!
I have PCOS & underactive thyroid...i found i had PCOS after i had my son, now aged 4.
I have been on Metformin for the past 12 months, i had managed to loose 5kg :-) which i am happy with...following a low carb diet plan.
My problem is my symptoms havent really changed! The hair growth is awful...esp on my chin, upper lip, lower back & stomach :-( My periods although started regulating have now gone a bit scatty again...my periods were 63-72days apart they are now 32-34-41 which is alot better but still no proper pattern.

I went back to my gp last week to say about the hair growth, as its really getting me down! She has prescribed me dianette contraception pill to help with the hair growth, but to still take Metformin too...is this normal? Im a bit confusedas Metformin is used to kick start the ovaries & regulate periods..but ifi take the dianette pill will this mess with my periods even more??

Please help xx

Not sure about the mixture of Dianette and metformin, but the Dianette is excellent for hair growth - and obviously for regulating your cycles.

If the Dianette doesn't give you the results you are happy with then you should ask for a referral to a gynaecological endocrinologist as there may be something else that they can prescribe (e.g. Vaniqa cream, which is very good for controlling hair growth). Also, in some areas, ladies with hirsutism may be eligible for NHS funded laser treatment. Usually someone would have to apply to your CCG on your behalf, but it typically costs in the region of £600 for a course of six sessions.

Thanks ohforfoxache :-)
I think i will give dianette a try...just not sure as the bleed will only be a break through bleed so not sure if its best to let my periods regulate themselves...but the hair growth is getting me down!! X

Yes the dianette and metformin combo worked brilliantly for me, I lost 6 stone then put 4 back on whilst pregnant! Currently need to lose a stone and a half still and really helped with the hair too :)

Wohoooo great news [SuzySheepSmellsNice] :)
So how long did you take Dianette for to see any change? How long after stopping it did you fall pregnant? Xx

I started on Dianette in November 1999 and then Metformin maybe March 2000, then I lost the weight over 2000 to 2001. The drugs didn't make me lose the weight according to my Dr and the endocrinologist, they stopped my body from stopping me lose weight... So I still had to eat well and exercise, but it worked! I came off the pill in March 2007 and was Dianette free (with 29ish day periods) until I fell pregnant on honeymoon in 2010 on my honeymoon, first month of trying.
