Hd has got a lump similar to a boil like infection on his elbow, it is not weeping green pus ( sorry know its tea time) but clear liquid tinged with a bit of blood. He just bent his elbow and it poured out like a tap, any suggestions ? The area around his elbow is red and inflammed had it for a couple of days now.

Tennis elbow??? Sounds like an infection of the joint to me - trip to GP definitely required I think. I would suggest an ice pack on it for now and rest. Could you strap it up for him in a sling as that would alleviate any pressure.

Blimey would an infection of a joint cause an open wound so that the liquid can escape I will goggle tennis elbow and see what they say ...thanks

hmm sounds more like a bite or something to me - infection mroe likely to give opaque (ie pus-like) discharge.

is the joint moving freely? has he a temp? how does he feel in himself?

I suggest gp first thing tomorrow.

The joint is painful to move, I have suggested that it may be a bite has he has just come back from abroad.

he has now gone to the local walk-in . minor injuries centre , he must be concerned if he has actually gone ! A bit worrying in case the infection spread .

where 'abroad' was he?

def sounds like something he picked up there - good on him for getting some help.
Some of the tropical parasites actually behave like this when they're healing - the swelling, fluid collection etc is an immune response to whatever it was dying.

Is it on the point of his elbow? Sounds like olecranon bursitis (swelling over the elbow, can happen if you lean on your elbows a lot - also known as "student's elbow"!!) - if it's infected then antibiotics should sort it.

mummydear · 09/07/2006 19:33

He was in Singapore , however he has just phoned me and is on way back from hospital - spot on Liath he has bursitis.

they haven't given him any antibitics, but suggested he goes to his Gp if not cleared in 4 days or so.

Not many people at the walk in centre tonight .

Many thanks for all your responses.

Keep an eye on the redness, if it's spreading or getting more sore then he'd probably need antibiotics.
