18 month old dd scratching head in the night

My dd has started really scratching her head in the night, this morning she had 3 big bloody scabs on her head

I do cut her fingernails very regularly. Should I try mittens - I can't believe she would keep them on for longer than 3 seconds though.

She does still get cradle cap and I wash her head with Dentinox shampoo, plus every night I put some baby oil gel on her damp hair, if I don't she wakes up with a terribly dry and flaky scalp. She hasn't got much hair yet (still!) so you can see it quite clearly.

Anyone got some miracle cures for this?

Forgot to say she does have very mild ecezma but never seems to scratch that!

thanks robinw. Have left the gel off tonight. Don't think it is that cos most of the time she's fine and I put it on every night. She's 18 months.

cd it is terribly dry at the moment. I know because I have a humidifier in ds2's room for his ezcema, and the reading during the day when it isn't on is very very low compared to normal. Its been like this for a few days. Maybe the dry atmosphere is just making her itchier than normal? Could you try and increase the humidity in her room? Even soaking a towel, wringing it out a bit and hanging it over the radiator will help a bit.
