Vitamin D Deficiency - What symptoms ?

Just wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with this ?

I've had chronic leg, ankle & foot ache/ pain for several weeks now. I am also very sitiff in the mornings (especially feet & ankles, GP thought Plantar Fasciitis) & upon sitting for any length of time.
Tingling and tender points in my sides, tender points on outside of thigh, inside of knee. Calf cramps, unrefreshed sleep & fatigue are some of the issues I have been having. My consultant took a blood test today to check my levels.

Any of these sound familiar ?

I was advised to take vitamin d supplements after having DS. He was a winter baby and I had joint pain esp in my feet and ankles and cramps.

I still take the supplement and haven't had problems since. I took a while to work and I started on a high dose and reduced it.

Hope you're better soon.

Thank you ! Smile
I had chronic stiff & painful feet after my dd was born 9 years ago too, GP just dismissed it as hormones !!!! Maybe I have been deficient in Vit D for a long time ? Will find out in 2 weeks ...

Yes it does sound familiar. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.
Is your doctor doing bloods to check your thyroid function? Planta facilitis, constant fatigue and a range of fairly non specific complaints are symptoms of an under-active thyroid. Have you put on weight?

Vit D deficiency is quite common in northern and western Europe because of lack of exposure to sunlight and poor diet. Interesting link here.

Good luck and try not to worry.

Low Vit D and Fibromyalgia are somehow related...

I have both and take cod liver oil with multivits and a specific Vit D supplement. Interestingly I used to spend hours outside in all weathers and it made no difference to my Vit D levels (before my Fibro got too severe).

It wouldn't surprise me if you have pain and low Vit D levels - might it be worth asking about Fibromyalgia?

I had (still do) feet and ankle pains with low vit D and also I find I have weak muscles in my thighs making climbing stairs and getting up from squatting positions difficult. Some days I literally have to crawl up the stairs.

Jamnan, personally I think I have an under-active thyroid but the tests the GP did weren't conclusive. I have put on about a stone and a half in the last year or so & just cannot shift it.
