I know midwives and NHS direct have already said they are 'not advised', but will one do that much harm?

No, but the reason they are not advised is the component which dries up the runny nose, the decongestant.

Take paracetamol 4 hourly and make your own lemon, honey and root ginger drink. Much nicer than lem sip anyway. You can drink it as often as you like.

If very bunged up try steam and Albas oil.

Hope you feel better soon.

Seconded. It's the decongestant bit that is the issue, so paracetamol is fine. How many weeks are you? During the 3rd trimester I had a stinking cold and was exhausted from the lack of sleep and toddler too. GP said I could use the sudafed spray as long as it was only at night and for no more than a week. Apparently it's used all the time in pg in the USA. I was utterly desperate mind. There is also a saline spray that is fine to use, with the baby meds. Can help to loosen things a bit. Inhalations over a bowl, on a tissue, plug in thing in room, prop yourself up a little in bed if you can.

Good luck x

Please don't take paacetamol EVERY four hours....it adds up to too much accross the day/night. Max dose is 4 doses total accross 24 hours. Read the packet carefully for details.
