What have I done to my hip?

I am having bad hip pain, just past the right hip bone. Also some pain near the pubic bone. It mostly feels muscular, but might be skeletal?

I am not pregnant. I have been running and biking more than usual lately. Because of my bike configuration, I often end up balancing on one v. extended leg, which might be the problem?

Have you over stretched your leg (iyswim!) when you've put it down one time? Maybe slipped and done so? I'd try a bit of deep heat and if it hasn't gone off in a couple of days then try a dr / chiropractor or something similar?

I don't think I over-extended it once, just over and over, iyswim. I'll maybe try stretching the muscle? Only I'm not sure what muscle is there?

What's your bike saddle like? That could be causing the pubic bone pain.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2006 08:14

It's a good one. With a hole in the middle. Biking doesn't hurt, just sitting, getting up, etc etc. The pain just behind my right hip bone is the worst of it.

I should probably try to do some pilates, with the theory that poor core stability might be the problem ...

Can you see an osteopath? - they worked wonders for DH's back and obv bones are their "thing"!!!

I might be needing one myself - got up in the night cos DS woke me saying he needed a wee. He'd wet his pants a little bit so in the dark and early hours I bent down to help him change and I've "done me back in" as they say! Can't stand straight, can't lay straight. No pain if I crouch. Hmm that'll be difficult to do the shopping today then! Strangely sitting on my comfy computer chair is painless. Yippee

I generally see physios for these sorts of problems, might go see mine, or try to get one through the NHS. Will see if I can clear it up with pilates, first, though.

Hmm, didn't do pilates, but it got better over the weekend. I think it is the bike, as I didn't bike all weekend. I'll try to balance more evenly, and see if that helps.

You haven't been shagging a lot have you? This is known as shagger's hip chez Dracula

NotQuiteCockney · 10/07/2006 20:18

Ahem. I'm not going to answer that one, but I'm pretty sure it's the bike.

(And frankly, I fear your definition of "shagging", if it involves balancing delicately on one leg while supporting great piece of metal.)
