My DF has to have this done in mid December, I live the other end of the country & intend to go up with DD (school hols) & help him, take care of his cat if they keep him in, which they have said could happen but he seems a bit confused as to exactly what to expect, & cant get throgh to the hospital to ask

so I am asking here in the hope I can get the info to organise myself in advance with train tickets etc

He's elderly, 78, though very fit & active, but does have other health problems too - chronic kidney disease & well controlled diabetes both if which I know can complicate surgery, he's also still grieving losing my DM, which though he will be a stubborn old sod & be very brave & not make a fuss ( ex military ) he will be panicking about having an op in the same hospital my DM recently died in, which I'm sure wont help

Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect, recovery time etc for this Op in these sort of circumstances

Thank you

bump for you :)

Thank you Kitten - turns out they've decided he doesn't need it yet, so it's now just a check up this time & maybe next year instead :)

Has he had the pm in a long time? They don't often change the battery, I understand they recharge them (it's a non-invasive procedure)

Yes, lost count of exactly how long, but it's in the region of 10 years, probably more - he has a bit more info now & apparently it's a sealed unit, so bar the wires, they replace the whole thing - but thankfully it looks like its a while to go yet, so I can relax about organising a Xmas trip up to fit round his op.

Thanks
