Sleep

Or more to the point, trouble getting to sleep at a reasonable hour.

I'm a night owl, and would happily fall asleep naturaly at about 2-3am and naturally wake at about 10 - 11am.
This obviously isn't good timing as I have a normal job (9-5)

I can go to bed early about 11 - 12 but end up tossing and turning, no matter how tired I feel I just won't drop off.
I wouldn't say I'm stressed but at these times, while I'm trying to drop off my mind it always working. I should cut the lawn, I should clean the grill, I should wash the car, I need to do x at work, I could by this for my DW.
It's all random, I don't stress about them. The thought comes into my mind then dissapears to be replaced by something else.

Tossing and turning does not do my DW any favors so at times I will get up and leave her to sleep. I actually find it easy to drop off on the sofa infront of TV. The news or discovery channels normally do it for me.

Often I will just know I'm not going to get off to sleep quickly so will just stay up for another hour.

It's not like I can't stay asleep for a decent nights sleep, I seem to sleep at the wrong times and need to change the pattern.

I might add this is not affecting my health, or family life. It's just bloody annoying when I'm tossing and turning or going to bed an hour later.

So what tips do you have for a 49yr old guy, average fitness and health, smoker (15 - 20 a day) rarely drink, reasonable diet.

A long time ago I saw a thing about resetting your body clock. I think it involved taking a week to yourself And every single night staying awake until way past you were tired. By the end of the week you should have seen the clock round And start being ready for bed at at a more Socially acceptable time.
