Mirena - really fed up

I had the mirena fitted in March this year in the hope that it might stop my periods. It wasn't really for contraception.

I'm really sick of it now. I feel premenstral all the time. Sore breasts, I've had the most awful headaches that last for days and that paracetamol won't shift. I don't really have periods anymore but I do have brown spotting that's been on and off since it was fitted. I have abdominal pain and now the spotting is red - thats freaking me out :(. Now I think I've got an infection - very sore 'down below'. I didn't have any of this before this coil. I also suffer from depression, quite severely in the past, and am on antidepressants for this but I am feeling low again now.

I asked the GP on Friday about removal and she pulled a face and said I should perserve but I've had enough. My periods weren't too bad - rather that than this. Can't even think about sex .......

i'd get it out then. If the gp wont do it maybe a family planning clinic would

Megbeth · 28/10/2013 09:59

I had all the same symptoms & had it taken out after 31/2 months. I was told it can take 6 mths to settle down but I wanted it out. My skin & hair went greasy, I had permanent PMT, headaches & bleeding. I just felt yuk. I was back to normal within a few days.

Just tell the GP you're TTC - then they'll take it out. It certainly doesn't sound like it's agreeing with you so you shouldn't have to be stuck with it.

For some people it's brilliant but not for others. I wouldn't hesitate to get rid of mine if I had your experience.

It seems you have persevered long enough. Get it taken out. GPs will try and get you to keep them in, so I would agree with ilovepowerhoop and go to a Family Planning clinic to get it removed. Dreadful things. IMO, should be banned.

You must read the 'bastard mirena' thread! Very funny but also awful, I agree insist you want it out!

Thanks for your advice everyone! I have been to the GP again, pleaded my case and he removed it straight away :) it seems I also have a nasty infection that may or may not be connected. Phew! What a relief :) will definitely have a look at the 'bastard mirena' thread ;) x

I could have written this myself a few weeks ago. I went to the family planning as was told I had a pelvic infection from my coil. I feel a million times better after getting it removed.
