Sore tongue and sore lips - what could be causing this?

I don 't want the faff of bothering my GP with something so minor but am wondering if I should...

About 6 weeks ago I developed a really sore tongue- red, cracked and with small ulcers on it. This gradually got better after about a month, but I still have very sore, dry lips, which started at the same time.

I've started taking Floradix as am generally feeling/looking run down, but the sore lips are really bothersome. Any ideas?

Thrush?

Could be thrush, but you tend to have a white film, it also could be a sort of vit deficiency (i think b??) I think a visit to the GP is on the cards tbh.

hmm i was going to suggest hand foot and mouth, which it could have been to start with but has now cleared up?

i think that vit b12 deficiency can cause dry cracked lips if that's something that might be relevant?

i'd see a pharmacist though, if you can... see what they recommend

Have a look here

My lips became very sore 6 weeks ago, by chance I googled and found toothpaste may be to blame as it contains an ingredient called Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. So I changed my toothpaste to Sensodyne and the problem cleared up :)

A search of "sls toothpaste" may help you, I don't know whether the problems inside your mouth could be because of the toothpaste as well.

Its possibly thrush, especially as you mentioned small ulcers. When I had a sore mouth, a blood test revealed I was low in folates. I now take folic acid.

Thanks everyone, I think I will give it til the end of the week then go the GP in that case. And change toothpaste for good measure.
