Bleeding a week before period due!

Hello, I'm new here and didn't quite know where else to turn.

Yesterday I was at work and I bled slightly, period like blood but it only happened once and then nothing else for that day. It did it again today, only the once and it has seemed to stop again. This has never happened to me before so quite scared, my periods have always been regular. I have been on the same pill for a few years now with no problems. I have slight period type aches but only very slight.

I know I will have to speak to my doctor but been worried since yesterday and can't speak to anyone until tomorrow and I am making myself feel ill worrying over the fact that something might be wrong with me.

Any help or advice would be welcome.

Thanks

Sarah

Please go and have a smear. Are you due/have you missed one? You will feel better knowing you're all checked out xxxx

It could be absolutely harmless, but really, please go!

And try not to fret. 24/48 hours will make no difference I promise Grin

Have you done a pregnancy test? Could be implantation bleeding?

I had similar on and off for a few months, GP wasnt worried but I kept bothering her as I'm a hypochondriac! and after a scan it was confirmed I had a great big polyp .... which was removed under GA with no probs Smile Smile more than likely something similar so go and see tour GP tomorrow Blush

Thanks

I think it is worth a trip to the GP. I've had months of weird period bleeding - heavy/light, long/short, irregular, & am currently just brown spotting with cramps instead of a normal period - & am really worrying about it although my GP doesn't seem particularly concerned.

I've been to the GP a few times & had a smear (normal), ca125 (normal), swabs for infection (normal). GP said probably hormonal but it carried on so he has referred me for a scan. My gynaecologist friend thinks it might be a polyp.

Hope your GP can reassure you a bit.

I had this, went to my GP and she said if it came regularly at the same time each month it was probably hormonal. After an internal examination and smear it turned out to be cervical erosion/ scarring. Not serious at all but may need to be cauterised at some point.

Please just get it checked, it's very common apparently.

Thank you everyone. I spoke to my doctor who has told me that it's nothing to worry about as it's the only time it has happened and I was under a lot of stress.

I had my smear a few month ago and it all came back clear. All my doctor has said that if it happens over my next few cycles then they will look into it otherwise she thinks that it was just due to stress.

So relieved and things seemed to have calmed down now I have stopped stressing over it.

Thank you all again for the replies :)
