I haven't had a copper coil, but I love my Mirena. I find that I have no periods, only light spotting. I know there are a lot of horror stories out there about them, but I honestly have had no problems.

thanks for answering mummypig, have booked a date to have it swapped so am pleased to hear positive stories right now!

My Mirena has been great - I've had one for 5 years and will be having it replaced soon. Don't like the procedure but then it's fine once in.

Just a thought - are you planning to have one out and new in on the same session? I wished I had left a few days gap between having an old mirena out and new one in - my cervix got very uncooperative and I was in a lot of pain for the rest of the day - having to take to my bed and feeling very grateful the kids were being babysat elsewhere type pain.

However, no periods now for 9 years I think Grin

Mine will be in one session - tbh when I had this one put in it hurt and was painful that evening and I doubt it will be much worse this time. Plus I don't really have the time to have two appointments and have only been offered one anyway. Will need to psyche myself up for it - really not sure I could go through it twice Grin. Will be worth it though I know.
