Dental Onlay Question

toomanyeasterbunnies · 21/10/2013 11:59

I've just had the preparation appointment for a porcelain onlay. After lots of drilling, filling and testing of my bite he took a mold. However, now I've got back home I've realised that the tooth is now a different shape to the same tooth on the other side. Will the porcelain onlay come back looking like a normal tooth or will it come back exactly like the mold - short and stubby!! I feel stupid calling the dentist to ask.

TIA

Hi it will come back as a normal tooth dont worry! It looks like that as tooth has been prepared with enough space so onlay can go on top without effecting your bite.

Did he put a temporary onlay in?

Thank you yummytummy!! I don't think he put a temporary onlay on - I've no idea what he was doing! All I know is that my tooth is a lot smaller than it was and it has left me wandering if that is how the onlay will end up looking. If it is I will not be a happy bunny!

Ok, firstly why did you let him do something to you that you didn't understand? You are in control you know and if you want more information you must must ask your dentist before they take a drill to your tooth.

Secondly, have you done any research of your own? A quick google will tell you lots about the procedure.
