Any ophthalmologists out there?

Not sure whether this is a GP thing or an ophthalmologist thing, but I have noticed recently that I've developed a white spot on my right eye, as though the white is smudging into the iris - about 2mm in length at about 9 o'clock, IYSWIM. And now there's one on the other eye developing. What could this be? I am a longtime contact lens wearer so wondered if it could be related to that. I've also heard a white ring round the eye can indicate a heart problem or something, which is a bit alarming, but this is only in one little bit... Anyone allay my concerns?! Confused

I'd book into see a local optician ASAP, some will write to the hospital if you need it, some will write to the gp. Gps aren't usually eye experts.

Gosh, okay will do. Thanks.

It can indicate high cholesterol, or possibly cataracts - both fixable. I'd go to a good optician and see what they suggest - or your GP. Either will refer you on if you need to be.

Don't be concerned. I say ASAP only cos it can take a while to get through the system if its not an emergency.

Thanks, I do need to just get on and make an appointment though, this has been on the fringes of my worried mind for a while now...have been work-stressed lately and sleep deprived for the past two years with non-sleeping toddler, so starting to feel like I am falling apart as a result!

It will be a big relief to get it sorted :)

If you aren't tied into an optician then from personal experience I'd recommend a local based practice rather than a chain. Better continuity of service and its something my gp recommended.

Back again with an update and hoping for some more advice any eye specialist types out there?

Well I went to the opticians, nothing wrong with my eyes, they say. Went to the GP, had lots of blood tests for high cholesterol, also calcium deficiency, and results show no problem with either. Confused

Any idea what I might do next? Thought I'd better go back to GP...
The white patches are still getting bigger, albeit incrementally, it is still perplexing!
