Try Deep Freeze rather than Deep Heat.

And then a chiropractor?

Fold a newspaper up so its width is the length of your neck iyswim, pop it in the leg of a pair of tights and tie around your neck if it's really painful. It will give a bit of support until your muscles aren't so sore. If you can bear it, gentle stretching excercises every hour will help loosen it (chin to chest, hold for the count of 20, stretching a bit more during that time if you can, repeat with chin to shoulders). A wheat bag can be soothing. Sympathies!

Sympathies from DD1 she managed to do this in PE and ended up off school for a couple of days, she says it was unspeakably painful.

Did cause the silliest phone call ever from school, though.

"Mum, matron says can you pick me up"
"Why"
"I hurt my neck in PE"
"How?"
"I stood Up!"

Only DD1 could possibly manage to hurt herself standing up, DD2 falls out of trees and off balance beams. DD1 stands up Hmm

Anyway she assures me however minor the cause it's no laughing manner and I hope you feel better soon,

Thanks - what is the difference (apart from the obvious) between deep heat and deep freeze?

Def cold on your neck, not hot.

When I hurt my neck a few years ago, I kept putting heat packs on with no improvement. After about 2 days, I went into the doctor and he said that most of the time heat will just inflame the injury while cold have the opposite effect. Went home, put ice on, and within about an hour my neck felt much better.
