Worried about post op cough

Hi all, I'm 4 weeks post anterior repair with Moniac surgery and so far so good. Until last week, that is. When I got a cold from my daughter and the associated cough. The cough is so bad I'm up at night unable to stop wheezing, fits of coughing, unable to breath, nearly retching it's so bad. I'm coughing nearly every breath. I've tried every over the counter product and I am living off lozenges. Today I've found that when my bladder is full and I cough, I am leaking. It's making me rather depressed. I cannot just swing back to ask my specialist as we have moved recently and I got surgery at my old address (waiting list was shorter), which means an hour flight away. Help?! Any suggestions? Has this cough ruined the surgery permanently?

I don't know regarding the surgical repercussions, but if you have a cough so bad that it's making you retch and wheeze then you must see a doctor. As a matter of urgency, I would have thought.

Can you not just go and see your GP?

If it's a cough that's particularly bad at night then get checked out for whooping cough as well as just a 'normal' bad cough - I had it quite badly but when I went to the gp they listened to my chest and as it wasn't too congested they insisted I didn't have a bad cough as your lungs don't sound bad like they do with a bad cough. Whooping cough just didn't occur to them.

Sounds a horrible predicament to be in - hope you manage to see a doctor somewhere and get sorted soon!

Thanks for the suggestions. Cough has settled down. Doc said to go back to week 1 post surgery, so no lifting, no cleaning. Fingers' crossed the damage isn't permanent!
