What will ease a dry cough?

Dd, 14, has been up all night coughing. She kept us awake with it too Hmm

She has had the awful virus that's doing the rounds and now just has this dry cough. She's coughing literally every 5 seconds and she's exhausted.

Have tried Vicks (on throat and chest and feet!) honey and lemon drinks, steam - with and without menthol - and covonia for dry coughs as well as foods with lots of garlic, ginger and onions.

Any other suggestions?

Any advice?

A decongestant/cold pill? Or an allergy pill? I know you tried the Covonia, but I'd try something else. Keep the cool mist vaporizer going and don't add menthol to it, as it can cause more coughing sometimes.

I sometimes keep an egg cup with a spoonful of honey in it when I have a dry cough, and eat dabs of it off my finger. A throat lozenge at night can cause choking, but honey in dabs is safe.

Ginger tea maybe will help.

Pholcodine linctus is excellent for a dry cough. You can buy it in Boots, I think you have to ask for it from the pharmacy bit IIRC.
