The doc wants to send me for an ECG

Only cos I went to renew the Pill and my BP has been on the slightly high side for a good while now. Last time he sent me for a blood test to check my thyroid levels cos my heart rate was fast (I get v nervous seeing the doc, i know it's irrational) but thyroid was normal.

Is he being trigger happy? He's obv not overly worried as he has given me another 6 months' supply of the Pill! He says it is because of my parents having BP problems, and to see if my BP has been high for the last 5 years. (It wasn't when i was pg fwiw).

The idea of an ECG freaks me out. I suffer from anxiety I think so the only times i'm aware of my heart is when i'm anxious, so then it can seem like it's jumping about or pumping too hard or whatever, but I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with me. What apart from BP would an ECG show up? I just told the doc an ECG would freak me out so he said we'd wait till next time i see him, so i didn't ask any qusetions about it but would now like to be filled in all about ECGs so please offer me some info! tia.

ECG is really simple I had to have one at 8mths pg due to medication I was starting when DD was born. IT measures bp, heart rhythm and not sure if it does anyting else. Can understand you being worried as I was petrified but it really is very easy.

i know my heart rhythm jumps about a bit sometimes, it delays a beat slightly, occasionally, so feels like a jump. i've seen a few threads on here by ppl with same thing that have turned out to be nothing though. It's been like that for years . not accompanied with chest pains or breathing trouble or anything, just irritating. worse when stressed or particularly tired. just paranoid it'll show up on the ECG and be something horrid.

actually the doc asked if i'd be anxious going to that and for some reason because i said i'd freak out he said we'd wait, as if me being freaked out wouldn't give an accurate reading anyway! stands to reason. my heart would be thumping like a mad thing!
