Hi all,

Can anybody that has used metronidazole gel/cream for rosacea and found it effective, tell me how long it took before you started to see results??

Also in what ways does it help? Would really rather not have antibiotics due to bad side effects previously.

Thanks in advance.

I used this but found it worsened my skin, my mil also used it and I know that she preferred finacea to this.

How did it worsen your skin holidayseeker? If you don't mind me asking? Thanks.

Sorry I should have said, when using I found my skin became even more sensitive and I had little red spots appear as well that had not been there before.

I did end up using antibiotics in the end for 6 weeks to calm my skin and that did enough for me to then be able to cope with it as just those few weeks made a lot of difference as before then I could not get any product to not react to my skin.

Do you remember which antibiotics you took? I have some low dose ones but am too chicken to take them as the first lot I tried whilst they really helped my skin they also caused hair loss and spots on my neck :-(. The second lot I tried didn't help. Desperately trying to find something that will help. Can I ask is your skin back to 'normal' now?

I have used it and it controls my spots and flushing really well. Only issue is its hard to put foundation on top.

But my skin is so much better I don't need it as much as I did before treatment. Grin

I use Rozex cream rather than the gel as I found the gel made me look like my skin was peeling off! It takes a couple of days for me to notice a difference and I then need to keep using it for a week after my skin looks better for it to last.

Thanks katiebeau and Arbuthnot. Can either of you remember how long it took to notice a difference when you first started using it on your skin? I think I've been using it about a week and a half now. Haven't noticed any difference yet.

Oh at least a month. After three months I could have a glass of wine without immediately looking like a tomato Angry

Initially a good couple of weeks but now when I get a flare up I notice a difference in a day or two. I used the cream for a couple of months originally but now can go months without needing it.

It was tetralysal that I took and over the six weeks my skin gradually became calmer and less spots then I went away so stopped taking and whilst away my skin improved, this was last year and gradually since then my skin has improved greatly. I also used to flush really bad on my neck when drinking and dematologist said I had a mix of acne, rosacea and Seb derm but now I would says skin is pretty much back to normal. No flushing, not so reactive but I have got a lot of visible pores on my forehead which I did not have before all this started.
