Cervical Erosion, anyone got any experiences

Found out I have a large cervical erosion today after routine smear test. Been having pain when removing tampons for the last few months. Don't want to imagine the worst case scenario as I know it will probably be nothing and can be treated.
Just wanted to hear other people's experiences really x

i had one. it wasn't a problem and cleared up on its own.

StiffGandT · 25/09/2013 19:16

I was told I had cervical erosion years ago, pre children. Never caused any problems and cleared up by itself. Don't worry.

I had mine cauterised under GA, a simple day procedure which stopped the irregular bleeding it had been causing. A cervical erosion is completely different and unrelated to changes in the cervix which can lead to cancer, so there really is nothing to worry about.

I have/had one. First diagnosed years and years ago. Was treated once with liquid nitrogen, but I don't think it worked.

I don't know if it is still there tbh. I get occasional bleeding after sex, but always have done.

Jellykat · 25/09/2013 20:32

I had the same, and also had it zapped with liquid nitrogen.
Problems still sorted (so far) 4 years later.
It really is unrelated to cancer, so please don't worry x

I had cervical erosion abut 20 years ago, had colposcopy and clear since.

It's a very common problem and treatment is usually very effective.

I had it for years & was cauterised when i had a cevical polyp removed. its ok honestly, dont worry

Imnotaslimjim · 25/09/2013 20:46

I had one, had mid-cycle bleeding for about 6 months. Was advised to not use tampons, had a course of anti-biotics as it was badly inflamed and had no problems since (5 years)

I've had untreated cervical erosions (they can come and go, and often cause no symptoms) as well as abnormal precancerous cells that that to be cut out.

Both were completely unrelated.

thank you so much every one I feel a lot less anxious now and will try not to worry x

Hi
You might find this leaflet useful. An "erosion" is also known as ectropion or ectropian - is a normal physical state. It can get sore, so as other posters have mentioned (and the leaflet too) you can have treatment. It doesn't mean your cervix is abnormal.
