mooncup problems *TMI *

GreggsOnLegs · 24/09/2013 11:50

I have been using a mooncup for about a year now but still having some problems.
At the start of AF, I have no problems but on day 3 the troubles begin, it feels tighter down there and I have trouble getting it in, then when I do manage to get it in, it doesn't pop out. If I put my finger up I can feel it pushed in on the sides by my insides iyswim, like it's being squashed. Then the leakages start because I'm not catching it all.
I have got the correct size as I'm over 30 and have had a vaginal delivery.
What can I do, if anything to resolve this?

Sometimes these things are measured on a standard size only. It sounds like yours does not fit properly from your description. I would approach a doctor/family planning nurse to have some measurements done and check that you internally are the right shape to hold one. They may be able to advise from there

The thing is, it does fit on the first couple of days, it's the third day and after when the issues arise which leave me perplexed, what is going on inside me?

Its quite normal for your cervix to change diameter at different stages of your cycle. For many women it tends to start off narrower, open to full width during full flow and then gradually close up again as menstruation ends. It is worth getting yourself checked out to reassure yourself that everything is the way it should be. Does not mean anything is wrong with you. Maybe the mooncup is not best form of sanity protection for you. I would seek advice if it bothers you.

Are you pushing it up too far? It needs to sit low in the vagina.

valiumredhead · 25/09/2013 21:17

Do you rinse it first before inserting it?

GreggsOnLegs · 26/09/2013 10:20

I think I will have to make an appt to see what's up, if anything. Or maybe that's just the way I am.
Not placed too high up and yes I rinse everytime before reinserting.
I really want it to work, I persevere month after month but I'm getting nowhere. Maybe I'll have to look at an alternative.

Maybe you'd get on with a sponge better?

HopeForTheBest · 26/09/2013 12:20

Mine used to someimes stay squished and not catch everything and I also had a nightmare with leakage. Someone on here gave me the tip to sort of run a finger around it when it's in to make sure it's fully open and suctioned into place iyswim.

It is because you are dryer on your third day hence you feel tighter and have problems getting it in? Menstrual blood is a good lubricant. Have you tried the origami fold? scroll down to about mid-way

valiumredhead · 26/09/2013 12:48

Mine pings open with a twang!Grin

WaspInTheHouse · 26/09/2013 12:56

Does the twang not hurt?! Mine does!

WaspInTheHouse · 26/09/2013 12:58

I would have suggested making sure it's not bone dry when putting it in and trying a different fold, but if you do that already I'm pretty clueless.

GreggsOnLegs · 26/09/2013 13:15

First and second day, goes in easily, I can easily position it, pings out, when I put my finger up I can feel all around and it's not pushed in on the sides at all. Get to third or fourth day and no matter how I fold it I can barely get it in, I'm really really tight, when I do manage it, I put my finger up and can feel that it's pressed in on the sides by my insides and I twist but it doesn't make a jot of difference.

Maybe I could try the smaller size for those days

Also I've tried squatting or putting my leg up on the bath but it's still really tight to get in

valiumredhead · 26/09/2013 13:27

Squatting wouldn't help add that makes the vagina shorter.

claudedebussy · 26/09/2013 13:33

i would try a smaller size for the last days. also try a meluna - different brand.

claudedebussy · 26/09/2013 13:34

btw - i've noticed that my cup fits better at the end so i suspect it's quite normal to change shape. i think my womb gets a bit swollen at the beginning.
