AS a few of you know DD has been in hospital a couple of times with breathing problems. Well last night she has started with the cough again and her chest is recessing this morning. At the moment she is asleep in her swing and we are watching how she goes as her inhaler has helped a little. Just getting so fed up of it and wish they would do something..last time they put in a iv for antibiotics but then decided not to give them to her and gave her steroids for 3 days instead. It is just soo frustrating as she is never better when she is released jus tnot working as hard.

Nemo you poor thing I went through exactally the same thing with dd2 for a couple of years.. she suffered with bronculitious when she was four weeks old. was in and out of hospital (about 9 times a year) the same old routine nebuliser and steroids. There was a fight with the gp and hospital consultants the gp said it was just a weak chest that suffered during a cold but the hospital consultants said it was asthma, so the gp wouldn't let her have a repet perscription for beclazone or ventalin. She was given a new one everytime by the hospital but when it ran out she always ended up back in hospital.. until finally last year the A&E docters finally got involved as they knew us by then and said they were getting extremely frustarted with the whole blasie (sp?) approuch the GP had that if he didn't provide sophie with an appointment with an asthma nurse that there will be repercussions. And so finally did and yes DD has astma she hasn't been admitted since. I really do feel for you. I'm not suggesting that your wee one has asthma but it sounds very simular to DD2. I hope you get it all sorted soon hun

Nemo1977 · 25/06/2006 12:24

megandsoph that is exactly what is happening. Hospital consultants keep saying it is likely to be asthma but they wont diagnose it yet as she is only 6mths old. She was in hospital for a week beginning of april and beginning of june so its only 3/4wks since she was last in. At the moment she is doing a little better but night time is horrendous as she cant sleep with the coughing and wheezing. I am giving her the inhaler every 4 hrs which helps a little but really am so frustrated as I asked the dr last time to give her a preventer inhaler as I have asthma myself as do all the women on my side of the family and it seems pretty obvious to me that is what she is suffering with.

Aww Nemo i am sorry about this, don't know much about asthma but sendnig you & your dd love, i hope she is ok xx

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 25/06/2006 12:42

Nemo - sorry to hear about this Is she still suffering with reflux? Might be worth asking about getting some further investigations with that to make sure it's not causing her lung problems. Hope you can get her sorted.

megandsoph · 25/06/2006 13:35

I really don't know what to suggest as these dr's don't half like to stick to their guns on this subject... You know when little one was admitted last time did they do the nebuliser? and then changed to spacer every hour then every 2? I was told eventualy after being admitted a few times to give DD 5 puffs through spacer every hour and then every two untill she no longer required it. every four hours just wasn't good enough for her to keep the wheezing calm. Goshh Am so you have to go through this at the end of the day your instinct is stronger than any Dr's thoughts IMO Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!

Nemo1977 · 25/06/2006 17:19

Thanks all we are still as home as she has basically slept a lot. Also coughing up green gunk so must have a chest infection. Will take her to GP in the morning as DH has said he will sit up with her tonight as I did it last night.

She does still have reflux problems and I did mention last time she was in that her breathing is a lot worse after she has eaten but they just said that was normal and not the reflux.

Hi Nemo, sorry to hear that your little dd is ill again , you must be so worried about her and shattered too . Has your dd been to see a specialist of some sort yet? Really hope that she gets the right treatment this time and you finally get to see her well xxxx

MeAndMyBoy · 27/06/2006 16:20

Nemo - I've only just noticed this thread, although i did know H is poorly. My SIL has had chest infections for years and it was finally discovered recently that it was caused by reflux, and stuff getting into her lungs causing her to have asthma like symptoms.

Hope the doc's went ok yesterday and that you've all had a better night last night.

H x

Oh Nemo i've only just seen this. Poor little H, I hope she improves soon. How is she today?

Nemo1977 · 27/06/2006 22:30

fio funny you say about CF as Dh mentioned that yesterday. I think we are waiting to see if antibiotics work and if not will be demanding the hospital do further tests. When she was in the beginning of the month they said she had black patches on her lungs but never went any further into explaining. The whole thing is soo frustrating.

Oh Nemo, sorry to hear this. My DB had asthma when he was little and can vividly remember evenings like you describe with him. Its so frustrating that you have to fight to get anything done by the Drs and your little dd is suffering in the meantime. Take care and remember to look after yourself too!

Jimjamskeepingoffvaxthreads · 27/06/2006 22:51

Does she taste salty Nemo? Can be a symptom of CF. If you want them to test her for it mention that she tastes salty. Don't lick her near her eyes or anywhere sweaty though as that will tast salty whatever!

Nemo1977 · 27/06/2006 22:54

jimjams never really ermm licked her but will give it a go tommorow.
