Tonsillitis/quinsy

I went to the emergency doctor yesterday morning to get some antibiotics for tonsillitis - I get it quite badly every now and again. Thing is, I've been taking the antibiotics for over 24 hrs now, and if anything, my throat feels tighter and I am having to spit out loads of extra saliva. I have Difflam Spray as well, but that is doing bugger all, as far as I can tell.

In the past I have developed a quinsy (throat abscess) that was so bad that sips of water were going down my windpipe - it was very frightening. I'm really worried that might happen again, although I am probably being irrational.

Is 24 hrs not enough time for the antibiotics to take effect? Am I being premature? Or should I try to get seen again this afternoon? What would you do?

Are you not able to swallow your own saliva due to discomfort or because you physically can't get it down.
If the former I would try & see GP again ASAP, if the later go to A&E as its a sign of serious infection.
I used to work in ENT (many moons ago) and this was the kind of thing I'd see 2-3times a week in A&E. If you have got a quinsy then it needs draining ( and you'll feel a hell of a lot better for it). Get well soon.

I can't physically swallow the volume that I am creating. Plus it is thick and full of bits of pus so it clings. Eugh. I shall take action now. Thank you.
