Throat infection - am I infectious do you reckon?

Ds (6) had a horrible throat infection last week. Temperatures of up to 105, sore throat, shivers, all very unpleasant. After the 3rd day I took him to the doctor who said it was a viral (probably) throat infection. Anyway, he's better but on Sunday I woke up with a very sore throat and have had it ever since. Both children were at my mum's on Sat night and we've managed to keep dd, who is 11 weeks old, away from me since they came back on Sunday, on the basis that it would be really miserable for her if she got it. So my question is, do you reckon I'm still infectious? I'm missing dd (haven't been in the same room as her since Sunday) and want a cuddle.

I do know btw, that she will get everything we all get at some point and I can't always protect her but she is only little and this one we could avoid since it was no problem for dp to take a couple of days off work to look after her so she could avoid me. We're hoping she's escaped. I still have a sore throat and night sweats but apart from that I'm fine. Paracetamol is keeping my temp down during the day. What d'ya reckon? Am I still infectious?

Most throat infections are viral - chances are you were infectious before you were symptomatic anyway WWW but think you are infectious if it still hurts

I really don't know for sure, but if you still have active symptoms I guess you are still infectious...

Don't know if you're infectious still, but sorry you're ill! I had a throat infection last week and it's horrid isn't it! Do you like hot ribena? That's my general purpose throat medicine!

Hope you're better soon!

We have all had a grim throat infection AND conjunctivitis - my gp said that it is a virus that is doing the rounds...we have all had it but I had it the worst (the only one that can't go to bed for the day )

Mine has sort of gone now but glands are HUGE and painful still.

Anyway, meant to say that dd2 (16 months) got it too but much less worse than me - she had gummy eyes and was a bit fractious but that was it. Lasted a couple of days. So even if your dd does get it, she may get it very mildly.

Doesn't seem worth missing out on cuddles for!

Thank you, hmm, maybe I'm infectious then, still have a sore throat. Dp has taken today off work too to look after ds and dd and keep them away from me so I've got another day in bed I guess! What a shame!! I'm off to a friend's house with them both tomorrow (dp staying here as he has to work) so I'm going to consider myself better by then anyway. Thanks! Sorry you lot have been ill too Enid, must be the strain of looking for jobs for both of us mustn't it?
