Gripy gallbladder?

Any advice/experiences very welcome.
Over the last week I've had a gripy pain in my right side under my ribs-I've also felt quite sicky and generally run down. It feels quite acidy but I already take omeprazole and it's a different type of discomfort to that.
I've heard that gallstones are incredibly painful and it certainly isn't that so I'm just wondering if it's possible to just have a grumbly gallbladder?
Obv. I'll go to the drs if it carries.

Yes, it's possible. Mine started off grumbly, then one day was absolute agony, ended up in A&E, and eventually I had to have the bugger removed.

If it keeps happening, ask for a scan to check for gallstones. If you have private health insurance, now is absolutely the time to use it!

Hmm that is my fear! Sadly no health insurance tho.
Hope you are better now Grin

Yes, all sorted!

A lot of gallstone sufferers have to push and push for diagnosis. Keep a diary of your symptoms and what you ate beforehand.

I have this. Keep worrying its my liver! I'm a bit overweight and it's discomfort rather than pain, mostly if I stand up for long periods or about half an hour after food. It's not bad enough for GP yet - might look into private health ins in the meantime :)

Yep-I'm the same-concerned it's my liver! It seems to have settled again today so fingers crossed...

Sounds like gall bladder to me - mine started niggly, went undiagnosed for years and then wham! agony - get thee to a physician

starshaker · 22/09/2013 21:24

I thought i had heartburn a couple of weeks ago. Went to a&e feeling really really stupid cos nothing was shifting it and got kept in for 10 days with acute pancreatitis. Waiting on an appointment to have my gallbladder removed

fatsatsuma · 23/09/2013 11:41

Hope you don't have to wait too long starshaker

Can I ask those of you with a gallbladder diagnosis that started off gripey/grumbly rather than full-on agony, was the mild pain always on the RH side? I've had nausea for weeks plus discomfort in that region but also all across the top of my stomach - that whole area is tender and weird feeling. My GP is sending me for a scan, as she is definitely thinking gallstones. But I don't seem to have the classic symptoms. Does this ring any bells?

DotCottonsHairnet · 23/09/2013 12:36

I had pains on and off for years as well as bloating/nausea - at first I thought it was connected to my monthly cycle then IBS. When I finally went to the docs He thought IBS too until he pressed on my right side at the bottom of my ribs and I yelled with pain. A scan comfirmed there were stones and a few months later it all came out.

Well worth getting checked over.

fatsatsuma · 23/09/2013 13:05

Thank you. I will see what the scan shows. When my GP pressed in that area this morning it was no more tender than the rest of the top of my stomach, but last week it definitely hurt specifically when she prodded it. I just don't feel that I'm ill enough for it to be gallstones, but maybe I just haven't had an acute attack (yet).

starshaker · 23/09/2013 17:01

The pain i had was in the center just under my rib cadge. I was told 4 years ago i had gallstones that were diagnosed because of a scan after i was thrown off a horse so i knew i had them but they had never bothered me until a couple weeks ago

fatsatsuma · 23/09/2013 17:15

That's interesting cos that's where my pain often is.

awaywego1 · 23/09/2013 18:36

Interested that other people have similar pain-it's confusing when you only hear about people in agony-although that might be in the post and also because I already have ibs and acidy tummy so hard to know what's what at times.

Have you been to your gp yet awaywego?

awaywego1 · 23/09/2013 20:39

No-it's been a lot better these past couple of days-but I will if it gets worse.
