Numb fingertips,blue nails...linked to infection??

I was out today when my fingertips went numb, my nails blue and I felt very out of it. I went to the gp as everyone was worried, me included, and after checking bp etc.. he said I had an ear infection. Apparently infections can cause these symptoms? I feel as if it's my sinuses too which makes sense but how can blue nails and numb fingertips be linked?

I guess if you have sinusitis as well as the ear infection it may be narrowing your airways and making it breathing difficult - lack of oxygen would certainly cause the symptoms you describe.

cheers wigwambam, I was getting paranoid as the dr I went to see isn't known for being that good. It's dh's usual doc and dh said he could give a better diagnosis! I definitely feel sinusy so I reckon you're right.

Go and see the GP again or ring NHS Direct if you're concerned. Cyanosis can be caused by a number of things: asthma and other respiratory problems, Reynaud's syndrome and anaemia for starters. It can mean circulation problems too, usually nothing to worry about but if you have any chest pain or anything like that with it, get straight to A&E (not trying to be a scaremonger or anything; chances are it's nothing nasty).

Are you on any medication for the sinusitis? If it's the sinusitis infection that's narrowing your passages and making it hard to get enough oxygen to your extremities then it should start to improve pretty quickly.

I'm just on amoxycillin. I'm breathing ok and don't have cough or chest pain. I'll keep an eye on it. Trouble is tonight I'm going out for my birthday so I hope I'm ok.

Ulysees, that doesn't sound right at all. Agree with WWW - seek further advice today. Do you have a temperature?

sorry I didn't reply. I'm a lot better thanks. My nails are still bluish at the bottom, the rest is pink. I'm on the last 3 anti bs and still feel as if my sinuses aren't right so I'll ring the dr in the morning.
