small black mark on dd's tooth

Dd is 11mo, I have been brushing her teeth regularly every night since about 6m. I have recently noticed a black mark on one of her bottom teeth that doesn't scrub off. Is that tooth rotting? She has been very fussy with teeth brushing recently and I'm worried they are no being done well. Does anyone have similar experience with their dc, and is it worth me seeing the hv over?

Tooth decay in children can present as black because its a different bacteria (my summary from a dentist when I asked about a child I knew with black marks on their teeth). They can clean it off.

Dark areas on teeth can be were damage has occurred to them. This could have occurred by something as simple as knocking her chin on something while the tooth was coming through. If it is something like this, I wouldn't worry unless she seems in pain. Continue brushing and I'm sure everything will be okay when the second teeth come through later on.

I would say it's unlikely to be tooth decay given the fact she is so young. My daughter was a nightmare getting her teeth clean and I'd say it was only when she got to ten they were being done properly and she doesn't have any fillings or problems. Also, at a young age she probably hasn't been exposed to too much sugar, other than what occurs in food.
