Copper coil, bleeding, dragging pains - TMI

I've had a copper coil for about eighteen months, no real problems with it other than the usual heavy bleeding for a couple of months and then heavier than usual but still normal discharge.

Last few days I've had quite a lot of heavy spotting, but mixed in with LOADS of brown/clear discharge and some manky green stuff. None of it smelled gross though so I wasn't too worried. But now I have low, achey dragging pains in my pelvis and lower back, feeling quite nauseous, no appetite and I'm worried that maybe there's an infection? Surely if there was an infection though, the discharge would smell?

I can still feel the strings and nothing else so it's not dropped out or mispositioned, but I'm mid-cycle and shouldn't be spotting. I really like my coil, and don't want to have to go through the process of taking it out and putting another one in, it was horrific last time with the bleeding and the cramping.

I had similar problems you describe. terrible pains It would start mid cycle.
After lots of swabs all coming back negative, it was a smear that picked up an infection associated with the coil. Can't remember the name. Doc called and said the best action would be to have it removed and a new one inserted. I wasn't feeling brave enough to have another so just had it removed. No problems since.

Ooh that doesn't sound good - I had a copper coil last year and not long after the coil check I started to have dragging pain and light bleeding - I ignored it for a few days and ended up in hospital in excruciating pain. Of course it was infected. I would definitely get it checked out sooner rather than later if I were you just to be safe :(

Have you been to the doc today MummytoMog?

Can't get in until Friday as it's not an emergency. Although pain has now stopped which is a relief. Still going to go though. I did donate eggs back in May and I know that the IUD was in the right place and I had no infection then, so hoping I've just pissed off my cervix or something.

Oh fingers crossed then, glad you're feeling better
