i probably sound really stupid but is it normal to have reallly painful periods after having children?

i never used to get really bad ones before and have always been regular. I have a 2 & half yr old and 10 mnth old and i just get so ratty for a few days before and then when i am actually on i kind of get pains down the back of my left leg and in my tummy/back/fanny (sorry).

i don't really want to go on the pill(I came off it years ago) so wondered if anyone had any suggestions as they just seem to be getting worse.

cheers.

Hi there, sounds awful.
Depends if you want any more children soon but I can thoroughly recommend the mirena coil. After 3 months on it I was havign no periods at all and my migraines stopped totally as well. Its a bit uncomfy getting it put in but I loved it (had to have it out for v obscure health reason and when that is solved will be having it put back!!!)
My periods werent more painful after having kids, but they were MUCH heavier, adn still are. Urrrgh!

BTW pain in the leg etc sounds like it could be endometriosis - a bit of bleeding tissue outside your womb on your sacral nerve causing pain down your leg. Worth asking your doc about maybe?

Jess,

Would suggest that you see a GP with a view to getting a gynae referral.

My initial thought as well was endometriosis on reading your message.

Californifrau,

Heavy bleeding as well can be caused by fibroids - again another good reason to seek medical advice from a gynae.

thanks for your responses, sorry not got back sooner.
i will get an appt with the doc asap. It is weird cos i did have sciatica during my first pregnancy and the pain down the leg does feel like it did then.
will let you know.
