i was wondering if anyone has also had this.... and whether or not you had it in subsequent or previous pregnancies...ie if you get it once will you always get it?

beansontoast - I didn't get gestational tp, but I had ideopathic tp years ago which is slightly different but I know a little about it. From what I understand, everyone's platelet count drops somewhat in preg, and some folks' drop too far. Once the baby is here the levels almost always return to normal quite quickly. I think if you have had it once, it is more likely, but not definite, that you would have it again. They will give you extra blood tests to check throughout and from my experience, they will look after you very well.

thanks for that wilbur...does that mean that you had itp during a pregnancy too?...

it was very scary...my already v.low platelets plummeted once i was in labour.im sort of hoping that its not a given that you get it again.

No, afaik, it's not a given, but they will monitor you just in case. I didn't have it in preg, as I had had my spleen removed to cure it 20 years ago but they monitored me a lot, all the same.
