fairly sure this is what ds has, started as a tiny scratch on his tummy, just to the right of his tummy button and just where his nappy rubs, and has gradually got worse and worse. Is now a patch about the size of 2 postage stamps, one slighly wet looking sore surrounded by several excma looking spotty areas. Have a doctors app. for tomorrow afternoon, and have put a dressing on it in the meantime to hopefully stop it spreading any further via 'nappy rub', but was wondering if anyone could suggest anything in the meantime. (Took him swimming for the first time exactly a week ago so am assuming this is where he picked it up!!!) Thanks in anticipation..............Smile

DD had this around 11 months and I'm afraid that not a lot will stop it spreading apart from the antibiotics (at least that is how it worked for Dd). Just make sure she doesn't come into contact with too many people as it is very contagious. Hope it clears up soon, you really feel for them don't you? It goes quite quickly after the antibiotics get into their systems though :) HTH

This could be impetigo ewhich is common in small children and at this time of year.

Took my DS£ to Gp this afternoon, only appointment I could get today !! He had a small spot near his groin which Saturday truned into a sore and within the last 24hrs has spread rapidly and he now has a large sore about 4 inches long near his groin. He is on antibiotics and cream for it now. He has got impetigo

Have a look at it in the morning if partcularly worse get to the GPs in the morning , by this afternoon mine little boys had got alot worse from the morning.

In the meantime make sure that your Ds doesn't use anyones else towel and be very hygenic as imeptigo is very contagious and kepp away from other small children.

What did the GP say ? Must admit the antibiotics and cream are working a dream for my Ds.

dandycandyjellybean · 21/06/2006 08:20

No antibiotics, just cream. I asked about dressing it, as it is in a place that rubs on his nappy and I felt that was spreading it, so the doctor gave me a prescription for 5 (5 ffs!) dressings and then told me to apply the cream at least 3 times a day!!! By my reckonings I'll run out by this afternoon. LOL. So far it hasn't spread to anywhere else, so fingers crossed. Glad it's working for your ds mummydear .

My dd1 had this when she was about 7 months - bottom of her back/top end of her bum just where there nappy ends. I used the cream from the gp and it cleared up within a few days - I never put any dressings on. HTH

My dd2 had this when she was 3 weeks old !

Never seen it before even with 2 older children.
We used the cream, fusidin, it worked after a couple of days.

She had it on her nose, so not quite the same as nappy area.

Hope it goes quickly.
It is very common I was told.
