The snip - not sick?

My husband is going for the snip on Monday (finally! Two extra babies later) and he's been told he has to take the time off his annual leave because it's not for his health (it's for mine, another pregnancy would be very bad for my body!) Does anyone know if this is right?

Old MN thread

university staff guideline]]

business forum answer.

So not sure if day of op is annual leave and then recovery dys are sick, or if all sick. May depend on the individual employer.

Depends upon the employer. I could have had the time off as sick as it is allowed, but would rather not have told anyone so I booked a day and a half off as leave - op on Thursday afternoon, day to reocver on Friday, then hopefully back in Monday.

Unfortunately it didn't pan out like that and I was off sick for three weeks - everyone then knew why I was off. Swelling, haematomas, infection - not nice.

Hopefully it will go fine. Get him to book a couple of days leave - if all settles down then he will be back in work quickly. If not, then the doctors will give him a sick note - there will be no chance he will be in work - I ended up in the GP's as soon as it opened on the Monday, then A&E on the Tuesday.

I've got PVPS from the Vasectomy I had a YEAR ago (10% of men do get this) so I'm down for one or two additional procedures which will have me off for a month each.

Rest, ice and supportive undies (by this I mean jock strap or runners undies, not cotton trunks or boxers as they aren't supportive enough - I know !)

Thanks for the links Monty.

TheFuzz, I can't tell him all that Grin he's already demanding a GA Hmm (he's not getting it of course)

His op is Monday and he'd been told to take Tuesday off too, he'd already booked Wednesday and Thursday as leave before he had his date so he's decided to take the whole week and been told it's not sick. It seems from the links the operation is optional (even though it could make me ill not to do it and I'm thrombophiliac so can't use hormones and means an operation wouldn't be a good idea) so he should use his own leave but the time after he is unfit to work however that happened so he should have the time off as sick.
