possible thyroid problems

Some of you may remember me posting at the start of the summer about a whole list of symptoms all of which point to an under active thyroid but tags came Back 'normal' at 1.73. Now given that every female on my mums side of the family has some sort of thyroid problem I was expecting them to test more than tsh level.

I am going to see the nurse at the hospital about my carpal tunnel problem and was wondering if any of you know if they will be able to order tests to check ft3 & ft4 levels etc don't want to make a trip to my gp if they can do it. Started keeping a diary of what symptoms I have when so I have evidence when they ask how often some thing happens as my brain is that foggy I can't remember.

Any help or suggestions will be gratefully received

You can always ask, but don't expect them to. Are you having a blood test for CTS? I had an x-ray on my wrists and was told a bit of arthritis < am older> and suspicion of CTS.

I got blood tests last friday for thyroid not got results back but would they just do a basic test??

Carpal tunnel syndrome is of course a symptom of hypothyroidism and your GP should know that.

You need to have your FT4, FT3 and antibodies tested. With the family history ( and the symptoms) I am thinking Hashimoto's Disease.

weelady if they can get away with it they will just do TSH, but that is notoriously unreliable and you really need the tests listed above to get a full picture and rule out (or in) non-conversion issues or auto-immune thyroid disease.

Well will have a chat with the nurse while i'm there see if they can do all the tests tsh was only done about 6 Weeks ago but blood was taken about lunch time and from what i've read the level is at it's lowest mid afternoon so would have been higher if if had them taken first thing which I do normally. If they can't request the tests I'll have to go see my gp but they are all fairly useless in there own way
