I have extreme pain under my ribs and I feel like my tummy has been blown up like a balloon. I've tried antacids, milk and bicarbonate of soda but nothing is giving any relief. I've now been sick 3 times and not even that helped

Lie on your back. Massage your tummy hard for a few mins. Then pull your knees up to your chest and have a good fart!!

thornrose · 01/09/2013 01:28

I rub and rub and rub the middle of my chest, imagine you're winding a baby. Also drinking warm boiled water can make you burp.

It could be gall stones or hiatus hernia. You need to see a Dr if you ate in a lot of pain.

starshaker · 01/09/2013 06:16

I called the doc out and he said he thinks gall stones. Was gonna give me a morphine jag but since I'm on my own with the kids I couldn't get it

Bloody hell ,gall stones agony from what I hear .

So no pain relief ...but what is plan B ? Can you get help with children later ?

Many sympathies .

I'm in hospital now. They are thinking pancreatitis or hepatitis.
I always thought it was alcoholics and drug users that got hepatitis. I'm scared. I'm waiting on them doing the blood gasses test and I know it hurts

star
Do you mean you think the blood gasses test will hurt ? I don't think it does ,dont they just take blood samples ?

Tell nurses you are in pain ,ask if they can give you anything .
If you are scared of a test tell them that as well ,and ask for a hand to hold .
They wont mind and you can always preface with a " I know I'm being a wimp ,please forgive me " and I bet you're not being a wimp anyway .

The nurses are your friends - tell them if the hospital doc visit has left you none the wiser /uncertain of what's happening . Nurses like to help but you have to tell them how you are .
Bear in mind all staff in hospital are mortified/hate it if what they do causes pain and they will do their best not to hurt you .

Pancreatitis not unusual in perfectly sober people - all staff will know that .

The blood gases test is from an artery rather than a vein. I just want to go home

OP posts:
gingeroots · 02/09/2013 11:59

oh poor you , hope it's done soon . Have you had one before ?

Are nurses looking after you ?

gingeroots · 02/09/2013 12:02

Might not help and I apologise if it seems I'm trivialising your situation but when I was recently in hospital and had to have slightly painful stuff ,I kept saying to myself " it's just a bit ouchy " .
No idea why but it seemed to help .

Flowers Flowers and wishes for home soon .

starshaker · 02/09/2013 12:20

They tried a few years ago for something else but after 3 tries they still didn't get it. The pain made me nearly pass out

star tell everyone you can ,nurses ,person doing procedure ,what you've just said above . Obviously better to say b4 procedure especially as will I think need doc to write up .

Tell them you can't bear it ,already had enough from other pain etc .

Ask them for something ,pain relief ,sedative like lorazipam which they can give before anxiety making procedures . Of course I don't know if taking something else is a no no because might affect blood gasses result ?

But must be something they can do ? Local aneasthetic on skin ?

Thinking of you . you can hold my hand .

gingeroots · 02/09/2013 18:27

star thinking of you ,hoping the blood gasses are done ,that you're more comfortable .
And that you know what next step is and that going home might be soon .

starshaker · 03/09/2013 18:19

Bloods done and it hurt but the doc was really nice and gave me a jnr docs hand to squeeze lol. Waiting for an MRI now which should be tomorrow then hopefully home. Will get my gall bladder removed in a couple weeks if my MRI scan is clear

OP posts:
gingeroots · 03/09/2013 18:27

Glad that bit is behind you and that the doc was nice ,tho I find I tend to dissolve into tears when they're nice !

Good luck with MRI ,hope the pain is controlled and that you are able to get some rest in hospital .
