could I have ovarian cyst?

My period is now 9 days late, and I've gained 6 lbs in those nine days, all around stomach. I've peed on stick many times and am not pregnant. I'm getting cramping pains (like period pain) fairly often, feel vaguely nauseous and generally not right. Doctor has suggested scan and bloodwork next week, and a friend has mentioned possibility of ovarian cyst. Anyone had one? Have read that they can interfere with periods and cause sudden weight gain so it kind of fits... Any info/experience gratefully received Smile

It's possible yes. If you are booked for a scan then it should show it up. Try not to worry too much because if it is a cyst then it's likely to be benign and easily treated.

Thank you! yes, trying not to think about it too much, but every day I'm getting bigger and I've never heard of a cyst that grows at that rate Hmm. I literally get on the scales at lunch time (not that I"m obsessed now or anything) and I've put on another half pound. I keep imagining this huge alien thing growing...
Okay, will divert with books and films until scan. Although probably not Alien Wink

Looking on the bright side, if it is a fluid filled cyst then that's good news as unlikely to be anything nasty.
If you get severe pain go to A&E straight away as it could be a twisted cyst which is very dangerous. In fact if you have any other weird symptoms go to A&E anyway unless it's really near the scan appt.

Will do, and thank you. Really appreciate it Smile

I have an ovarian cyst, discovered 3 months ago but didn't have any of the symptoms you've described. I had investigations following severe stomach pains, which may or may not have been related to the ovarian cyst (they also discovered a liver cyst).

I think you just need to wait and see what the scan shows up but try not to worry too much in the meantime.

I had a dermoid ovarian cyst and had no symptoms whatsoever, it was only discovered when I had a scan for a spine problem. When it was removed it was the size of a large orange and my sister (a former nurse) couldn't believe I hadn't noticed anything.
