Scarred cervix

What would cause this? My GP thinks it's why I'm getting bleeding between my periods.

I had an erpc between having my two children, would that be it?

She said it may need cauterising (sp?). What would this involve?

What is an erpc?

It's not a scarred cervix- it's a cervical erosion or ectropion. Its when the cells from the inside of the cervical canal grow out onto the cervix. They are more delicate , and not the same as the tougher cells on the neck of the cervix. and during sex for example they can bleed. it's not dangerous and is very common. it's usually caused by a change in hormones- being on the Pill, pregnant or HRT etc.

It might go away or it could be cauterised as a day patient. Basically they give you a local anaesthetic and then cauterise it.

Thank you!

An erpc is "evacuation of the retained products of conception" I think. It's an operation. I had one after a miscarriage to remove the miscarried baby and tissue (as it wasn't happening naturally). I thought that might be what had caused the scarring.

The doctor thinks I'm bleeding because of the erosion but has done a smear too, just in case.
