Have I got gout?

I've been getting a lot of pain in the ball of my right foot (ie the bit below my big toe). When I got up this morning I couldn't put any weight on it but once I got moving it was OK. Happened again this afternoon - really painful after I'd been sitting a while. It's generally a bit uncomfortable but every so often gets really painful.

DH thinks it might be gout - anybody any experience or advice?

Not an expert but when my dad had it his feet were swollen and he couldn't get either shoe on.

A blood test for gout would show high levels of uric acid.

It's unlikely to be gout, you can of course be tested for Utica acids levels as explained up thread. It's more likely that you have some inflammation in your joint. I can happen for a variety of reasons, foot wear, walking up lots of stairs.
Takes some anti inflammatories and if it doesn't settle see a podiatrist.
