Really heavy periods since DS2 born

I used to have heavy periods from the age of 12 until I started taking the pill at 17 then they became really light (heavy on day 1 then light bleeding for about 3 days). This stayed the case after DS1 was born.

However, DS2 was born 8 months ago and since I stopped breastfeeding and went back on the pill my periods have become a nightmare. Firstly I am spotting throughout the month. Then my period has arrived when I haven't finished my pill packet (so about 5 days early). I am bleeding really, really heavily for a full 7 days.

This has gone on now for 3 periods and I am wondering if I should see doctor or if it is normal after having 2 babies? I had a smear back in April before all this started and, apart from being excruciatingly painful which is never was before, all was clear.

Will I be wasting the doctors time time? I'm not sure what he could suggest? Thanks for any advice.
