I've got toothache!

Went to Dentist yesterday and took first tablet of a weeks worth of antibiotics for an abscess.
I'm also taking the maximum painkillers one is allowed, when do the antibiotics start working?
It's been 24hours since the first tablet it's getting worse not better! I've got to work, look after kids etc.
When will I feel normal again?
I know it's only toothache but it HURTS.

Tooth ache is horrible isn't it :(. And that's usually the way with ABs, they get worse then they get better quickly. What painkillers are you taking? I've just (about 5 hours ago!) had my wisdom tooth taken out and the pain is crazy, but co-codamol has really taken the edge off it.

Have you tried a warm salt water rinse? That might help.

Yes just tried a salt water rinse, that did help thank you.
It's not getting any worse so I'm waiting for the get better quickly stage, just wish it would hurry up.

Oh I hope you feel better from having your wisdom tooth out, I feel your pain.

Aww thank you, like I said co-codamol has really taken the edge off it. I forgot to mention try ibuprofen as well for the swelling, you can take that along side paracetamol :).

I know exactly how you feel too, the only other tooth I've ever had taken out was because of a reoccurring abscess. It just really is the worst pain isn't it. It makes you feel shit and you can't do anything to stop the pain. for you my lovely and I really hope your ABs kick in soon and you feel better!

Oil of cloves can help, doesn't react with painkillers, also hotwaterbottle in towel can also help abscess along.- hope it's soon better.

Thanks for the support guys. Woke up at 3am this morning with the most awful pain. Took 2 Ibroprofen and 2 Paracetamol and a hot water bottlle - to cuddle ( not swallow!)
I've been on AB's for 36 hours, ( think as my brain doesn't count any more) so I've taken 4 tablets so far - 3 a day. The dentist says I can go back for another lot of AB's which work alongside these ones if its not shifting it. Do you think Im being a bit hopeful that it would be starting to get better by now. If I take any more pills I'll rattle and Im not looking forward to any possible side effects, but at the moment I'd happily chop of my head.
For those of you who have suffered thus- can you remember how long it took for the AB's to start to work.
