Anyone know about undiagnosed diabetes?

Dh is spectacularly reliant on his blood sugar levels to control his mood. If he doesn't eat when hungry he spirals from irritability and grumpiness into unreasonableness and stubbornness and onwards down into anger, irrationality, confusion and snarling belligerence. It's remedied by making him eat say, half a mars bar. Not toast or crackers or fruit/veg, must be sugar. This bit is hard because if he has got to the point of irrationality it is hard to convince him! He is back to himself before he has finished his fourth mouthful.

I convinced him to try and cut out sugar just for one day. He doesn't eat loads anyway but we both just wanted to see what it was like. Cue awful headache, grumpiness etc, (not to extent above as made sure he had slow release food like oats too) and major tiredness. Hes a night owl normally but was asleep on the sofa at 10- shock!

He's in bed now but I am worried about him! What if he's actually diabetic and I'm sending him to sleep whilst heading for a coma! Ok might be over thinking this but am worried about him being so dependent on sugar. Any advice?

Book him in with GP to have blood tests done would suggest a glucose tolerance test (where have fasting sugar taken and given sugary drink to see how body responded) and HbA1c blood test (gives picture of how sugar been in blood over last couple of months). If he prefers to eat sugary food would suggest jelly babies rather than Mars bars as sugar slower to release in system yet still gets effect and also follow it up with carbohydrate at same time even if only half slice of toast or some rice to pick at. Try to avoid him going over couple of hours without food if wont eat meals properly. If will eat decent amounts stick to no more than 4-5 hours between. Good luck with persuading him to get tested...perhaps tell him complications if sugar levels arent controlled usually works :) especially that could alter their erections or cause damage to their eyesight
