Trying to see GP when anxious

Ok, so my anxiety levels are quite bad at the moment particularly around health issues (I have diagnosed myself with cancer).

I decided that I should see my GP about my ongoing sore throat and talk to him about my anxiety. I can't spend the rest of my life shaking and crying and it's starting to impact on my work.

I am off work anyway next Thursday/Friday so rang GP. I was told that you can only now make appointments in the morning of the day you want (and you may not get one) and that they will not book any appointments in advance anymore.

She was very brisk about it and it wasn't up for discussion.

So what do I do now? I thought it might help my anxiety to have something to aim towards. Also this isn't a life or death emergency so I could easily wait a week. What if I don't get an appointment on either day? They have stopped their Monday night clinics as well and I can't take time off work.

Sorry, I'm now getting stressed about this. I know I can't do anything about it and just have to call on the day but just wanted a little whine/cry about it.

I just wish something was straightforward for once Sad.

The same day appointment system is useless. Not sure what you can do though, just posting to bump the thread for you. Hope you get a more knowledgeable response soon!

Try the Overcoming Health Anxiety Book, kindle or real life. Pretty good, I think.
